The purpose of this thread is to look ahead to say 2020 and beyond, when we might have GPS III L1C and L5, Galileo E1, E5a and E5b, GLONASS signals, COMPASS signals, INSS signals, Huh to chose from.

What kind of signal use will be proposed and adopted, both for en-route PBN and precision approach and landing?

Problem areas for GBAS:-

1. Single frequency GBAS will continue to fight rare normal and curious fault conditions, reducing its availability.

2. Politically, it will be desirable to support those constellations and signals that achieve Full Operational Capability.

3. Extending and fitting the current combinations of GBAS messages into the VDB is going to present limitations on the number of satellites and frequencies that can be supported.

4. The system has to remain as simple as possible while providing sufficient robustness.

5. The transition, from single-frequency, single-constellation to a future system, must support the legacy equipment while offering benefits to justify itself.

Any more? - Oh! We still have to get GBAS accepted as a viable ILS replacement (not just as an alternative). Smiley

Any discussion and ideas are welcome.  In particular, what messages and message content will we propose for multi-frequency, multi-constellation operation?

Best regards, Richard
